Karen K (Kalafatas)
Boston based Karen K (Kalafatas) is the leader of popular tot-rock group Karen K & the Jitterbugs and founder of Jitterbugs Music Classes for children 5 and under, now in it's ninth year. Best known for her pop-rock songwriting style that is popular among preschoolers and has broad appeal with people of all ages, Karen, a former musical theater actress performing in New York City, is also a dedicated teacher and mother. Her Jitterbugs Music Classes was recently awarded a 2016 Top 5 Family Favorite music award by Boston Parents Paper, and Karen K & the Jitterbugs was recently voted Best Kids Band in Greater-Boston by Mommy Poppins (41,000 votes). Called "fun for the whole family" by the Boston Globe, her music has been heard on Sirius Radio's Kids Place Live and radio stations across the country. She has appeared on PBS, CBS-New York, and her smash YouTube hit “I Woke Up in a Fire Truck” video was voted best kids video of 2015.
With a deep passion for social justice, Karen is also the founder and creator of Kids Really Rock, a free all-day family music festival held annually in Boston, MA, that promotes kindness, creativity and community. The event attracts over 6,000 people annually.
Caitlin joins the Jitterbugs teaching staff by way of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, where she spent three years as a Cast Member, Resorts Activities Coordinator, Youth Education Series Facilitator, and Youth Entertainment Host. A graduate of Wagner College in NYC where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance, Caitlin is recurring counselor at Five Star Theatre Program for kids in Reading, MA, where she grew up, and continues to assist with many of the middle and high school music and theater productions. Caitlin spent the last year as an elementary school Special Education Para Educator. Passionate about teaching and working with children, she is currently earning her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education at Lesley University.
Caitlin is also known as Ladybug in the award-winning tot-rock group Karen K & the Jitterbugs.
